About

Janine Agoglia, owner and Senior Yoga Teacher of Purple Room Yoga

Who I am

Hi, I’m Janine Agoglia, owner of Purple Room Yoga. I have been practicing and teaching Vinyasa yoga since 1995. In 2021, after 22 years of teaching in studios, I set off on my own and started Purple Room Yoga, an Online Yoga Studio for active adults over 50 who are looking to stay active as long as possible.

My philosophy

I believe that yoga is a lifelong practice to help you reconnect to yourself. Life gets busy and making time for yourself can often take a back seat. Prioritizing your self-care actually makes you more present and available to the people that need you. When stress and anxiety take over, you can’t be your best self. When you practice yoga, it gives you the support that you need to show up as the person you want to be.

Practicing yoga, both on and off the mat, provides you with the skills you need to let go of the stories you are telling yourself, and embrace what is actually true. Yoga is not about putting your foot behind your head, it’s about getting your head out of your ass, so you can let go of beliefs that no longer serve you. I work with many perfectionists and type A personalities to help them be kinder and more gentle with themselves and their self talk as they age. Aging isn’t always kind, but we can be kind to ourselves.

I have dedicated myself to helping people over 50 embrace the body that they have. When you meet yourself where you are, you find peace, ease, and comfort, both in body and mind. I encourage my students to accept themselves as I do, with love, authenticity, integrity, honesty, and gratitude.

Practicing yoga keeps your body strong and supple so that you can move through your day with ease. Yoga encourages better sleep, while also calming your mind for when the world seems to be going off the rails.

Breathe and flow, build functional and core strength, improve your balance, increase functional mobility, and learn to be with what is. Move from stress and anxiety to feeling calm and present every day.

Online courses explore different areas of your practice. Both live courses and self-paced courses are available. Yoga Basics Over 50, Safeguard Your Back After 50, Intentional Eating: Finding Peace and Balance in Your Relationship with Food, and Diving Deeper into Your Yoga Practice are just a few. Check out the Courses tab to see what’s happening (click the button below). If you are interested in a specific course, feel free to email me at any time at [email protected]

My first book, Living Yoga: One Yoga Teacher’s Journey to Surrender, is about practicing yoga off the mat. Through humor and personal stories I explore the first two limbs of yoga, called the Yamas and Niyamas.

I am a GenX yoga instructor who has been practicing yoga since 1995, and teaching since 1998. Yoga has helped me let go of perfectionism, anxiety, and depression, and imperfectly navigate the challenges of life. Through honest reflections and owning my humanity, I share my bumpy and unskillful journey to finding peace and surrender. Yoga is a practice, not a “perfect.”

These concepts are thousands of years old, but still apply to modern life. Along with journal prompts and exercises, I hope that this book creates space for growth within you. My explanations of these ideas are meant to help you live your yoga practice, and find peace and balance in your day to day life.

All are welcome at Purple Room Yoga. Come as you are. Stop simply aging, and start Aging Gracefully with Strength, Balance, Mobility, and Mindfulness. See you in class soon! ~Janine
