What’s Getting in the Way of you Moving your Body?
You’re invited to the Summer Yoga Kickoff!
Most people know the importance of exercise, but sometimes there’s a disconnect between the knowing and the doing. Do you make time to move your body? Sometimes the idea of finding and hour (or more) to get to the gym seems daunting with all of the things that we need to do in a day.
That’s why, starting Monday, June 2nd, I’m running a 30 day event called Summer Yoga Kickoff, and you are invited! Don’t worry, it’s not 30 classes in 30 days, it’s only 13 classes (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays), and most of the classes are only 15 minutes long! Can you find 15 minutes a few times a week to move your body?
While this event is open to everyone, these classes are specifically tailored to the needs of active adults over 50 who want to stay active for as long as possible. Once you hit 50 (and sometimes sooner), your body becomes less resilient and needs more maintenance to keep it functioning properly.
If you wake up stiff every morning, and certain movements are more challenging than they used to be, yoga might be the answer. The Summer Yoga Kickoff is a low stress, high result way to feel calmer, less stiff, stronger, and more stable on your feet. If you think you don’t have time, your body feels achy and stiff, you feel overwhelmed, or you don’t like the idea of online classes, read on.
I don’t have time!
You might find yourself at the bottom of your own to-do list, never quite getting to the end. You are the only one who can prioritize yourself and your own self-care, but it’s hard when you feel overwhelmed all the time.
If you find yourself running on empty and still needing to meet the needs of everyone else in your life, you will not be able to show up in the way that you want to. You might find yourself yelling at your kids, partner, or coworkers, simply because you are tired and cranky. This often ends with you going down a shame spiral afterward. It sucks, but it’s so common.
What if you put yourself first for a change? How do you think it might affect those interactions? If your energy tank is full instead of empty, it’s a very different picture. Take 15 minutes of your doom scrolling to move your body and notice how that feels.
Make yourself a priority. Everyone else suffers when you suffer. Self-care is not selfish (you might need to repeat that to yourself a few times). When you treat yourself like someone you love, everyone benefits, including you!

It’s time for a big “I told you so!” I just did my first 15 minute yoga practice. In my mind, 15 minutes isn’t enough time to even get moving! Wrong. Thank you, Janine. Much like meditation, I will now grab it when I can, even if it’s “just” 15 minutes.
The Summer Yoga Kickoff offers 15 minute classes twice a week that you can take live online, or on demand when it suits your schedule. Join the online studio up to 15 minutes early to connect with other people, chat with me, and get a few minutes of human connection. Mondays are 40 minutes (20 minutes of movement, 20 minutes of meditation), but can be taken as a 20 minute class if you are struggling to fit everything in. A little movement is better than no movement!

Muscle and bone loss is real
Every year after age 35 or so, we lose muscle and bone mass. I’ve read statistics that range from 3-8% loss every 10 years. Yoga builds muscle and bone strength and this event is chock full of classes that will support you.
Sun Salutations, Strength and Balance, and Mindful Core all build muscle and bone strength in various ways, leaving you feeling stronger and energized, while also feeling relaxed. Strength training in the gym can feel intimidating sometimes. With these classes you can go at your own pace, rest when you need to rest, and come back when you are ready. Plus, it’s only 15 minutes! You can do anything for 15 minutes.
Starting something new can be scary and procrastination is real. Summer Yoga Kickoff is a non-threatening way to connect to your body and build strength online! No one is there to see what you’re doing, you get to move in the privacy of your own home.

I don’t like online classes
Now that the pandemic is over and we’re no longer hiding at home, online classes might not have the same draw as they once did. What I love about taking and teaching online classes is that there is no commute. You don’t have to stress out about traffic making you late to class. You also don’t have to compete for studio space, you get to be in your own space.
If you take the live classes and don’t want anyone to see you while you practice, you can always turn off your video. You’ll see me, but I won’t see you. If you have questions or requests, you can ask them before or after class and I’m happy to answer them for you.
Plus, you can be anywhere in the world and still take classes! I am in Massachusetts, but I have students in Spain, Nova Scotia, California, Maine, as well as Massachusetts. Plus, my students often take me with them when they travel to Florida or Arizona, and when I go to Vermont, I can still teach!
If your time zone doesn’t match up with mine, you can take all of these classes on demand. Every class is recorded then stored in the Video Library which you can access at any time. Even if your schedule conflicts, you don’t have to miss out! When you take the live classes, connecting and talking together before and after class makes it feel like we’re all together in the same place.

I love Janine’s yoga classes! I have taken many classes over the years and Janine’s is the first one that I really felt comfortable in. Janine is so knowledgeable and excellent at accommodating any conditions that participants may be working with . I completely trust her knowledge and background to keep me safe during class!
I love her [online] format because it allows me the freedom of being able to pick a workout, plan when I can do it, and enjoy the benefit of regular yoga. Janine has so many classes to choose from and I can pick and choose whatever I feel will be best for me on that particular day. Janine is the best!!

How you feel matters
Have you ever noticed that when you are feeling low or irritable, it affects everyone around you? It also feels crappy. When you are in a good mood, that is also contagious, and it feels more comfortable in your body. I am not encouraging you to force yourself into a good mood (no toxic positivity please!), but moving your body encourages your good mood to flow naturally.
You deserve to feel content and happy. Movement encourages “feel good” hormones to flow, even after you’re done exercising. It’s amazing what 15 minutes of yoga can do to improve your mood and overall well being.
Every Monday in June is Movement and Meditation, an all levels class with gentle yoga movement and stretching followed by guided and silent meditation to loosen up your muscular stiffness and put your mind at ease. My students claim that this is the “best class ever” and the “best way to start the week!”
How might you feel if you started your week with yoga and meditation? It doesn’t take long to shift your state of mind.

I know it sounds like hyperbole but I feel completely different after doing the class. I still wish I had more sleep last night but I’m not dragging my mind and body around as much. Magic of the mat. 😁
Thank you!!!!
